The Department of Physiology, AIIMS Madurai, successfully organized a CME on “Bridging Innovation & Commercialization: The Future of Medicine” on 9th May 2026 at Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan Hall The program was conducted under the guidance of Professor Dr Vir Singh Negi, Director, JIPMER & Executive Director, AIIMS Madurai The CME highlighted the importance of innovation in healthcare and medical education, along with the journey from prototype development to commercialization.

Under the guidance of the Honourable Executive Director, Prof Dr Hanumantha Rao, an awareness programme was organized on 30th March 2026 at the Syed Ammal Arts College, Ramanathapuram to observe World TB Day 2026 The programme was conducted by the District TB Unit, Ramanathapuram, in collaboration with the Department of Community and Family Medicine, AIIMS Madurai, under the theme “Yes! We Can End TB: Led by Countries, Powered by People” The event was graced by the presence of distinguished faculty members, Dr Venkateswaran, Head of the Department of Pulmonary Medicine, Government Ramanathapuram Medical College; and Dr Praveena Daya A, Assistant Professor, Department of Community and Family Medicine, AIIMS Madurai, along with the Senior Treatment Supervisor (STS) staffs from the District TB Unit, Ramanathapuram Dr Venkateswaran elaborated on the risk factors, symptoms, diagnosis, management, and counselling aspects of tuberculosis Dr Praveena Daya A highlighted the vital role of community members in TB elimination, emphasizing the importance of reducing stigma and discrimination, as well as early identification of TB symptoms to prevent its spread The programme concluded with a pledge taken by all students and staffs in line with the World TB Day theme The vote of thanks was delivered by the Principal of the Syed Ammal Arts College, Ramanathapuram, marking the successful completion of the event.

Prof (Dr) Prashant Lavania (President), Prof (Dr) M Hanumantha Rao (Executive Director) & Dr Subitha B (Vice Principal, GMC Ramanathapuram) graced the inauguration A TB-themed quiz for II MBBS (2024 batch) was conducted by Dept of Microbiology, AIIMS Madurai Prelims on 18 Mar & finals on 24 Mar 2026 Students participated enthusiastically. Top 2 teams won prizes; spot quiz winners received medals Dr Mangayarkarasi V (Prof & HOD, Microbiology) delivered a lecture on “Advanced Diagnostic Methods in TB” Dr P Chitra Rajalakshmi (Prof & HOD, SRM Trichy) spoke on “TB Control & Elimination: National & Global Outlook” Microbiology faculty were appreciated.
Guided by our honourable Executive Director Prof Dr Hanumantha Rao, Department of Obstetrics and Gynaecology and Department of Pathology of AIIMS Madurai organized a cancer screening programme for faculty and staff from 16-3-2026 to 20-3-2026 in GRMC hospital Ramnad Awareness program on HPV vaccination in NACS ICSE and Matriculation school on 25-3-2026 In addition, MBBS students were awarded prizes for Poster competition.

Under the guidance of honourable Executive Director Prof Dr M Hanumantha Rao, Dept of Community and Family Medicine organised the first Systematic Review and Meta-analysis workshop in collaboration with TRC of AIIMS Nagpur from 2nd March to 5th March 2026 The workshop witnessed the active participation of enthusiastic faculty members and senior residents from AIIMS Madurai They engaged in interactive discussions and hands-on learning throughout the sessions.

Guided by the Honourable Executive Director, Prof Dr Hanumantha Rao, National Youth Day 2026 was celebrated on 12 January 2026 at CSI College, Ramanathapuram, with the theme “Ignite the Self, Impact the World” The programme was organised by the Academic Committee, AIIMS Madurai, along with Social Outreach Cell The event was graced by the participation of the following faculty members from AIIMS Madurai Dr CP Ganesh Babu, Dean In-charge (Academics & Administration) Dr Sarah R and Dr Prabhakaran N, Assistant Deans (Academics) Academic Committee Members – Dr Arumuganathan S, Dr Sasikala K, and Dr Praveena Daya A Dr Ganesh Babu delivered a special address to the students, highlighting the relevance of Swami Vivekananda’s teachings for today’s youth, with emphasis on self-belief, discipline, and social responsibility This was followed by a talk by Dr Praveena Daya A on “Community Engagement and Collective Responsibility in Non-Communicable Disease (NCD) Prevention,” where she emphasized the role of youth as change agents in promoting healthy lifestyles and strengthening community participation in NCD prevention Subsequently, Dr Sarah, Assistant Dean (Academics), delivered an address elaborating on the National Youth Day theme The programme concluded with a pledge taken by all students and staff, reaffirming their commitment to embody the spirit of “Ignite the Self, Impact the World” in their personal and professional lives.
Under the guidance and encouragement of our Honourable Prof (Dr) Hanumantha Rao, Executive Director & CEO, AIIMS Madurai, the Department of Forensic Medicine and Toxicology organised a court visit to the District Court of Ramanathapuram for the II MBBS ( Batch 2024-2025) students of AIIMS Madurai The visit was organized as part of their applied orientation to medico-legal case proceedings, courtroom processes, and legal procedures, which will greatly support their future medical practice During the visit, students attended live proceedings of sessions court and fast track mahila court, gaining valuable real-time exposure to judicial process The program concluded with an interactive and insightful session presided over by the Hon’ble Principal District Judge Thiru A K Mehbub Alikhan and respected Thiru K Baskar, Secretary - DLSA and Thiru Kesavan, Chief LADCS The students thanked the entire judiciary of the District court of Ramanathapuram for giving them this opportunity.
As part of Forensic Convergence 1, the Department of Forensic Medicine and Toxicology conducted the National Online CME on the theme “Forensic Toxicology: From Theory to Practice” on 22nd November 2025 (Saturday).

Under the guidance of our Executive Director, Prof (Dr) M Hanumantha Rao, the Department of General Surgery along with the Department of Trauma & Emergency of AIIMS, Madurai successfully conducted a CME on Emergency surgery and Trauma care on 29th August 2025 This CME featured guest lectures from various emergency surgical and trauma related topics and vibrant scientific discussions, carving the scope for advanced trauma and critical care in AIIMS, Madurai.
Under the guidance of Executive Director Dr Hanumantha Rao, the Department of Physiology, AIIMS Madurai, under APT, hosted Pre-Conference Workshops of APTCON 2025 – YAKKAI 360° on 20–21 August Covering Neuromodulation, Nerve Conduction & Evoked Potentials, Intraoperative Neuromonitoring, and Polysomnography, the workshops led by eminent experts witnessed vibrant participation, fostering interactive learning and bridging physiology with clinical practice #Yakkai360.

The 79th Independence Day was celebrated with grandeur in AIIMS Madurai The Executive Director & CEO Dr Hanumantha Rao hoisted and unfurled the National flag in the temporary campus of AIIMS Madurai and addressed the Faculty, Residents, Students and staff Prizes, medals, and certificates were distributed to toppers and distinction holders in university examinations to motivate healthy student competition Prizes and trophies were distributed for the sports event ‘SADUGUDU 25’ and the winners of the ‘World Breastfeeding Week’ program The students performed a wonderful lineup of cultural performances that reflect the diversity and richness of our country’s heritage.

As part of World Breastfeeding Week 2025, Under the guidance of Executive Director, the Department of Community and Family Medicine organised a poster exhibition at PHC Devipattinam MBBS students and staff members actively participated MBBS students displayed the posters and explained to the ANC mothers the importance of breastfeeding Following which, awareness sessions for ANC mothers were organised at PHC Devipattinam Around 50 ANC mothers participated and benefited from the session.

Under the guidance of Executive Director Prof Dr Hanumantha Rao, Dept of Pharmacology AIIMS Madurai has conducted a classroom debate for MBBS students on ADR reporting as a part of Fourth National Pharmacovigilance Week – 2024 celebration.
Under the guidance of Executive Director Prof Dr Hanumantha Rao, Dept of Pharmacology AIIMS Madurai in association with GRMC has conducted an awareness rally to sensitize the public regarding the importance of ADR reporting and PvPI.
Under the guidance of Executive Director, Prof (Dr) M Hanumantha Rao, Department of Community and Family Medicine, AIIMS Madurai conducted Nutritious Food Exhibition in association with Melvin Group of Institutions, Ramanathapuram as a series of events for National Nutrition Week 2024 and POSHAN MAAH 27 students actively participated in the exhibition and showcased the locally available nutritious dishes Almost 50 different types of dishes were exhibited Faculty members from the Department of Community and Family Medicine judged the exhibits and the top two were awarded.
On the occasion of World Suicide Prevention Day 2024, under the guidance of our honourable Executive Director Prof Dr Hanumantha Rao, Department of Psychiatry, in collaboration with the Department of Community & Family Medicine, AIIMS Madurai, conducted an awareness session for 200 students at Syed Ammal Arts and Science College, Ramanathapuram, on September 10, 2024.

The awareness rally began at the front gate of Ramanathapuram Government Medical College Hospital and proceeded to the IOB traffic signal point District collector inaugurated the rally and the event was honored by the presence of Prof (Dr) Hanumantha Rao M, Director & CEO, Prof Dr A M Raja, Head of the Ophthalmology Department,along with other distinguished AlIMS faculty members Around 100 undergraduate MBBS students from AlIMS Madurai participated in this eye donation awareness rally The primary goal of this eye donation awareness rally was to educate the public about the importance of eye donation and to encourage them to become eye donors At the conclusion of the rally, refreshments and water were provided to all participants.

The footfall for the camp was 400 patients NCDs screening, High Risk Pregnancy screening, Juvenile Diabetes treatment, Leprosy treatment and Speech disorder rehabilitation were carried out by the five member team from Medicine, OBGY, Paediatrics, Dermatology and ENT.

As part of the Vigilance Awareness Week 2025 celebrations, a sensitization session on the theme “Vigilance: Our Shared Responsibility” was conducted by Shri M. Ramachandran, Deputy Superintendent of Police, Vigilance and Anti-Corruption, Ramanathapuram District. Prof. Dr. A. M. Raja, Chief Vigilance Officer, AIIMS Madurai, delivered the special address, emphasizing the importance of transparency and ethical conduct in institutional practices. An awareness pamphlet was released during the event, followed by a debate competition in the presence of Prof. Dr. C. P. Ganesh Babu, Dean (In-Charge), AIIMS Madurai. The program concluded with an awareness rally involving faculty members, students, and non-teaching staff, underscoring collective responsibility in building a corruption-free campus. In addition, the Vigilance Committee organized various other awareness activities, including an outreach program at Mohamed Sathak Dasthagir Teacher Training College and a sensitization program for Data Entry Operators (DEOs) of AIIMS Madurai.
