Under the guidance of the Honourable Executive Director, Prof Dr Hanumantha Rao, an awareness programme was organized on 30th March 2026 at the Syed Ammal Arts College, Ramanathapuram to observe World TB Day 2026 The programme was conducted by the District TB Unit, Ramanathapuram, in collaboration with the Department of Community and Family Medicine, AIIMS Madurai, under the theme “Yes! We Can End TB: Led by Countries, Powered by People” The event was graced by the presence of distinguished faculty members, Dr Venkateswaran, Head of the Department of Pulmonary Medicine, Government Ramanathapuram Medical College; and Dr Praveena Daya A, Assistant Professor, Department of Community and Family Medicine, AIIMS Madurai, along with the Senior Treatment Supervisor (STS) staffs from the District TB Unit, Ramanathapuram Dr Venkateswaran elaborated on the risk factors, symptoms, diagnosis, management, and counselling aspects of tuberculosis Dr Praveena Daya A highlighted the vital role of community members in TB elimination, emphasizing the importance of reducing stigma and discrimination, as well as early identification of TB symptoms to prevent its spread The programme concluded with a pledge taken by all students and staffs in line with the World TB Day theme The vote of thanks was delivered by the Principal of the Syed Ammal Arts College, Ramanathapuram, marking the successful completion of the event.

Under the guidance and encouragement of our Honourable Prof (Dr) Hanumantha Rao, Executive Director & CEO, AIIMS Madurai, the Department of Forensic Medicine and Toxicology organised a court visit to the District Court of Ramanathapuram for the II MBBS ( Batch 2024-2025) students of AIIMS Madurai The visit was organized as part of their applied orientation to medico-legal case proceedings, courtroom processes, and legal procedures, which will greatly support their future medical practice During the visit, students attended live proceedings of sessions court and fast track mahila court, gaining valuable real-time exposure to judicial process The program concluded with an interactive and insightful session presided over by the Hon’ble Principal District Judge Thiru A K Mehbub Alikhan and respected Thiru K Baskar, Secretary - DLSA and Thiru Kesavan, Chief LADCS The students thanked the entire judiciary of the District court of Ramanathapuram for giving them this opportunity.

Under the guidance of Executive Director, Dr M Hanumantha Rao, Department of Community and Family Medicine conducted a Health Camp in Government Middle School, Kuyavankudi in collaboration with DPH, Ramanathapuram This camp is part of the intervention of the Family Health Advisory Programme of MBBS students Specialist doctors from General Medicine, Dermatology, Psychiatry, ENT and Ophthalmology were present in the camp It benefited around 200 people in the local community.

On the occasion of World Suicide Prevention Day 2024, under the guidance of our honourable Executive Director Prof Dr Hanumantha Rao, Department of Psychiatry, in collaboration with the Department of Community & Family Medicine, AIIMS Madurai, conducted an awareness session for 200 students at Syed Ammal Arts and Science College, Ramanathapuram, on September 10, 2024.
The awareness rally began at the front gate of Ramanathapuram Government Medical College Hospital and proceeded to the IOB traffic signal point District collector inaugurated the rally and the event was honored by the presence of Prof (Dr) Hanumantha Rao M, Director & CEO, Prof Dr A M Raja, Head of the Ophthalmology Department,along with other distinguished AlIMS faculty members Around 100 undergraduate MBBS students from AlIMS Madurai participated in this eye donation awareness rally The primary goal of this eye donation awareness rally was to educate the public about the importance of eye donation and to encourage them to become eye donors At the conclusion of the rally, refreshments and water were provided to all participants.
The footfall for the camp was 400 patients NCDs screening, High Risk Pregnancy screening, Juvenile Diabetes treatment, Leprosy treatment and Speech disorder rehabilitation were carried out by the five member team from Medicine, OBGY, Paediatrics, Dermatology and ENT.
The Department of Forensic Medicine & Toxicology, under the guidance and leadership of Dr Hanumantha Rao, Executive Director & CEO of AIIMS Madurai, Tamil Nadu observed “International day against drug abuse and illicit trafficking” on 26/06/2023, Monday Activities like Awareness Program, Pledge against Drug Abuse and Meme Competition for students with theme “Yes to life, No to drugs” and best meme were awarded with prizes.
As part of the Vigilance Awareness Week 2025 celebrations, a sensitization session on the theme “Vigilance: Our Shared Responsibility” was conducted by Shri M. Ramachandran, Deputy Superintendent of Police, Vigilance and Anti-Corruption, Ramanathapuram District. Prof. Dr. A. M. Raja, Chief Vigilance Officer, AIIMS Madurai, delivered the special address, emphasizing the importance of transparency and ethical conduct in institutional practices. An awareness pamphlet was released during the event, followed by a debate competition in the presence of Prof. Dr. C. P. Ganesh Babu, Dean (In-Charge), AIIMS Madurai. The program concluded with an awareness rally involving faculty members, students, and non-teaching staff, underscoring collective responsibility in building a corruption-free campus. In addition, the Vigilance Committee organized various other awareness activities, including an outreach program at Mohamed Sathak Dasthagir Teacher Training College and a sensitization program for Data Entry Operators (DEOs) of AIIMS Madurai.
